Sick under the weather
Despite being vaccinated, I knew I could not avoid it forever :(! I recently caught Carona, and my sense of taste and smell diminished. The aftertaste and distorted smells were so yucky. Of course, please see your doctor if you have concerns about covid. I am not an MD, and this post is not intended as a substitute for medical advice in any way. Below is simply a list of things I did that made my time with Covid a little less miserable and that you might not have thought about looking into otherwise. As a result of living with a chronic condition, I am used to using trial and error to manage mysterious symptoms in various ways.
Nausea Band. This band has been a lifeline for me when I have suffered from chronic nausea for years, and it helped me with nausea I was having from covid related symptoms. Check out my chronic nausea post for more information.
Spice. I consumed a lot of spicy foods this week… especially cayenne pepper! Adding the extra flavor to my food reminded me that I still had some sense of smell, even though it was unsettling that the aromas were not as intense as before. I dig this website, which is devoted to spices and cooking. Be sure to take a peek at their recipes.
Queasy Drops. I have multiple boxes of these “queasy drops” in the delicious raspberry flavor at home. I have used them in the past for nausea related to other causes, and when I had Covid, they helped me with the gross smell and taste I was experiencing. Cough drops and mints helped too, but these worked the best for me! While the effect only lasted a little while, that much was worth it to me.
Pressure Points. This is a link to an article about pressure points. Working on my spirit gate” seemed to help me fall asleep when I struggled to do so due to my symptoms on more than one occasion. Interestingly, the nausea band I linked above also works on that pressure point. Who knows if that is helpful information to you, but perhaps it is at least interesting!
Yoga. Doing yoga has helped me clear my sinuses and lessen the fullness in my ears, even if only temporarily. For this reason, and because it is a great stress reliever, I pushed myself to roll out my mat whenever I could muster the energy.
Essential Oils. I discovered that eucalyptus oil was the most effective for my sinuses. For a whole kit, I recommend: Essential Oils, Introductory Kit.
Lemon Juice. A couple of days into my bout of Covid, even flat water tasted gross, and adding hints of lemon and lime juice helped.
Neti Pot. I used a neti pot to help drain my sinuses, but I found that sometimes it made things worse, so I made sure that I only did it in moderation.
Candle is my favorite candle of all time. It smells soo good.
Puppy love. I do not care that it is cheesy! My dog made everything better. That’s all :)
